Letter from 2001 emerges ------ Democrats urged Mexico to use "Secret Ballot",.....do what???
My source has been telling me for months now about a 2001 letter written by Congressional Democrats to the Mexican government.
Ironically this letter contains pleas from eleven Democrat politicians urging the Mexican government to use a secret ballot in all union elections. Congressman George Miller, sponsor of H.R. 800, was the lead signatory of a 2001 letter to Mexican government officials in which he states that "we feel that the secret ballot is absolutely necessary in order to ensure that workers are not intimidated into voting for a union they might not otherwise choose." This statement is exactly contradictary to his position on the rights of workers here in the United States.
Okay, now I'm really confused... follow me here and see if you are as confused as I am. Barack Obama has been elected, correct? The Democrats are in control of Congress so the unions want to be rewarded for their efforts, correct? ....oh never mind, I'm not confused anymore, just had to think outloud there for a minute, it all makes sense now.
Our Democratic Congress wants is to pass the card check bill. A bill that will cripple American businesses by doing away with secret ballot union elections, yes thats right the same bill they opposed back in 2001. The unions expect this bill to be passed within Obama's first 100 days in office and the Democrats seem willing to comply. I guess its time for our Democratic Congress to "pony up" since after all they did pander to the union vote to get elected ... so now, they have to do whatever it takes to stay in power. Even if that means changing their tune on an issue like secret ballot elections, and this is where we are supposed to act surprised, right??? NOT!!
Now get this, remember that when the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted to replace John Dingell with California's anti-business icon Henry Waxman in the Chairman's seat .. guess what. ....you got it ....... the vote was by secret ballot, go figure, surpise, surpise, surprise.
The Wall Street Journal has now caught wind of this letter from the Democrats back in 2001.
Too bad the Lame Stream Media won't cover this.
"the obvious irony is that Democrats now will try to deprive workers of the same privacy privilege in workplace unionization battles. So-called "card check" legislation would require an employer to sign a union contract as long as a simple majority of workers sign a form authorizing a union to represent them -- a move that necessarily makes workers more vulnerable to coercion and intimidation than if they are voting by secret ballot."
"A better explanation is that Democrats' principled support for a secret ballot flies out the window when it comes to union organizing efforts sponsored by the special interests who helped them win control of Congress."
