Culture remains hostile, discriminatory toward Christians

The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (CADC) has released its "Top Ten Instances of Christian Bashing in America, 2008." The list features numerous instances of discrimination and hostility toward Christians and the Christian worldview during the past year.

"Prop. 8 - The Musical," a music video by actor Jack Black, was among the top offenders. The CADC claims it defames Christ, mocks Christians, and distorts the teaching of the Bible. The movie Religulous, an attack on Christianity by comedian Bill Maher, made the number-nine spot.

Featured as number two, media attacks against Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, a professing Christian, ramped up during the election, while physical attacks by homosexual activists against Proposition 8 supporters in California took the number-one spot for Christian bashing in America last year.

Dr. Gary Cass, CEO of the CADC, says the list should both inform and equip believers. "I think it's because this sense of anti-Christian hostility is reinforced constantly in the culture," he notes. "You have comedians making Christians the butt of their jokes. Those of us who stand for traditional biblical values -- we are compared to cavemen, practically; we are [portrayed as] a bunch of unenlightened Neanderthals."

He expects hostility against Christians to increase in 2009. To see the complete "Top Ten" list, visit DefendChristians.org.
